About the Role
The Manager – WAVES (Work-related Aggression and Violence Employee Supports) Complex Cases will lead a team of Senior Advisors and an Intake Officer as they deliver services to schools.
The WAVES – Complex Cases team is part of the Employee Safety and Wellbeing Division. The team works with school leadership to reduce the risk of mental and physical injury to staff who are managing ongoing, complex, student challenging behaviours that require tier 3 supports. The team provides expert advice and services to schools to ensure effective physical and psychological risk management and safety planning and compliance with Occupational Health and Safety obligations.
This team provides a range of services and supports to schools including:
Assisting schools to develop and review effective physical and psychological OHS risk management plans, procedures and processes which support staff health, safety and wellbeing when working with students with significant behaviours of concern.
Building staff capacity to manage and mitigate risks associated with student behaviours of concern through Protective Intervention Training and other Professional Learning.
Coordinating with Central, Area and Regional staff to provide support to schools managing student behaviours of concern.
Coordinating access to mental health and wellbeing support for school staff including Employee Wellbeing Support Services, principal health and wellbeing services and the Early Intervention Program.
Assisting schools to access and implement OHS best practice, policy and resources.
Identifying critical gaps in addressing significant staff health, safety and wellbeing concerns and where appropriate lead funding applications on behalf of schools.
Providing referral for support with workers compensation claims and to other department areas to ensure Principals receive support as required.

Strategic planning and operational leadership of a team of 8 senior advisers and 1 intake officer, delivering on key priorities including:
Ensuring effective service delivery, including responsive service offerings, prioritisation of high needs schools, delivery of targeted supports and service impact tracking.
Enhanced data insights, systems, processes and tools to support effective and efficient service delivery.
Strengthening collaboration with other regional and central service supports.
Supporting a high performing, psychologically safe team culture.
Raising awareness of the service across the Department.

About the Department

The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.
