About the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission
The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission is the national regulator of Australian Government-funded aged care services.
We protect and enhance the safety, health, wellbeing and quality of life of older people accessing aged care, including dealing with complaints and feedback about the care they receive.

About the Team
The Provider Registrations team play a critical role in delivering the Commission’s responsibilities under the new aged care regulatory model, which commences with the Aged Care Act 2024 by ensuring only suitable entities are registered to deliver aged care services in Australia. They manage the entire registration lifecycle, including new applications initial registrations, renewals, registration variation, provider-initiated suspension and revocation service changes, and oversee the approval of residential care homes.
Through a risk-based, evidence-informed approach, the team upholds public confidence, protects older Australians, and promotes high standards across the sector in line with the Commission’s Regulatory Strategy.
About the Role
As a Registry Assessor you will be responsible for managing and conducting assessments of new entrants and registered providers as set out under the Aged Care Act 2024, other relevant aged care legislation and the Commission’s Regulatory Strategy.
Reporting to Senior Registry Assessors/Team leaders, you will rely on your skills and experience to interpret and apply complex legislation, Administrative Law Principles, proactively contribute to the safeguarding role of the aged care regulator, supporting transparent decision-making by assessing registration applications, registration renewals, registration variations and other registry activities.
As a Registry Assessor you also support and guide other team members, fostering a collaborative team environment to achieve outcomes and meet performance targets.
Position Duties
Interpret and apply complex legislation, ensuring all evidence-based assessments and decisions are compliant with the Aged Care Act 2024 and other relevant legal framework and statutory requirements.
Provide high-level administrative and coordination support to the Registrar and Audit Branch, contributing to effective branch performance and consistent regulatory practice.
Contribute to centralised functions that manage regulatory applications from collection and triage through to processing, ensuring consistent application of legislation, policy and procedural requirements.
Proactively manage an allocated workload within case management systems with accuracy and within agreed timeframes including tracking progress to maintain up-to-date records and support business outcomes.
Contribute to the development, implementation, and improvement of processes and guidance material, under direction, ensuring alignment with relevant legislation and organisational standards.
Engage and communicate professionally and clearly with applicants, registered aged care providers, internal stakeholders, other government departments, and members of the public regarding the registration function.
Actively participate in ad-hoc or planned projects and collaborative efforts aimed at improving assessment accuracy, efficiency, and processes.
Actively engage in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and adapt to ongoing changes in the aged care sector.
Perform other duties as required, contributing to the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the team, in alignment with the evolving needs of the role and regulatory environment.
Position Eligibility Requirements (Selection Criteria)
To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate the following:
Demonstrated ability to ensure performance targets are met and foster a collaborative and high-performance culture.
Proficient use of case management systems to organise and manage workload, track cases, and ensure deadlines and quality assurance standards are met while balancing competing priorities and maintaining high accuracy.
Ability to analyse and interpret information from diverse sources, including financial documents, to identify risks and provide well-reasoned conclusions and recommendations.
Ability to exercise professional judgement under limited direction, identifying issues and risks and escalating matters in line within procedural requirements.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to convey complex information clearly and accurately to diverse range of stakeholders.
Ability to build and maintain professional relationships across the Commission and with external stakeholders, supporting cooperation and consultation.
Demonstrated understanding of the role of a Commonwealth Regulator and the ability to quickly acquire knowledge of the Government’s Aged Care reform agenda, adapting to legislative and policy changes.
Commitment to ongoing professional development, proactively seeking opportunities to enhance skills and stay updated on sectoral changes and aged care reforms.
Adherence to the APS Code of Conduct and APS values, consistently displaying respectful and ethical behaviour.
Position Notes
Salary offered will be between $89,135 - $96,829 per annum depending on skills and experience. In addition, 15.4% superannuation will be paid.

Non-ongoing opportunity will be offered for an irregular/intermittent term. Opportunities will be offered for varying periods up to 12 months with the option to extend to a total of 24 months.
