This is an exciting new position supporting children, young people and their families accessing care across the new wards at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. The role involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams as well as with the broader Social Work Department. The Social Work Department is committed to providing best practice care and support to children, young people and their families as well to the ongoing development of a positive work place and learning culture

What you'll be doing
The primary focus of the position is to provide a comprehensive social work service to children, young people, and their families who are referred from the relevant clinical area. This includes the provision of psychosocial assessment, counselling, and advocacy. The service incorporates individual, family, and group work, as well as program development. The social worker is an integral member of the multidisciplinary team.

- Eligibility for AASW membership preferably with post graduate experience in social work practice with families and children and/or in health context.
- Demonstrated skills in crisis intervention, assessment and counselling and a commitment to evidence-based practice.
- Understanding of the issues facing children and their families when confronted with illness and disability and possessing knowledge of the relevant community support services.
- Demonstrated capacity to build professional and therapeutic relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal and written communication skills
- Capacity to share after hours and weekend on call duties.
- Competent computer skills and ability to adapt to new IT systems.
