Orion Consulting Engineers is a specialist civil engineering consultancy delivering innovative and practical solutions across residential, commercial and infrastructure developments throughout Queensland. Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Junior Designer to join our Brisbane office.
Working alongside experienced engineers and designers, you will play a key role in producing high-quality civil engineering documentation for a diverse range of land development and infrastructure projects.
The Junior Designer is responsible for preparing detailed engineering drawings, plans and technical documentation to support the design and delivery of civil engineering projects. The role involves the preparation of road, drainage, earthworks and subdivision infrastructure plans in accordance with Australian Standards, client requirements and local authority guidelines.
Prepare detailed civil engineering drawings, plans and design documentation for development and infrastructure projects.
Produce technical drawings for roads, lot grading, earthworks, stormwater drainage and associated civil infrastructure.
Assist engineers with the preparation and modification of civil engineering designs and construction documentation.
Interpret engineering specifications, survey information, standards and design requirements to prepare accurate technical plans.
Prepare drawings suitable for Development Applications (DA), Operational Works (OPW) approvals and construction purposes.
Utilise 12d Model, AutoCAD and Civil 3D software to prepare and revise engineering plans and drawings.
Prepare sketches, layouts, plans, sections, details and other documentation required for civil engineering projects.
Assist in the preparation of quantities, schedules and supporting technical documentation.
Maintain drawing registers and ensure project documentation is current and accurately controlled.
Liaise with engineers, surveyors, consultants, clients and regulatory authorities regarding project documentation requirements.
Ensure all drawings and documentation comply with relevant Australian Standards, local authority requirements and company quality management procedures.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of drafting standards, templates and technical processes.
Skills and Experience

Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Design, Engineering Drafting or a related discipline.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ relevant experience in civil engineering drafting and design.

Demonstrated experience preparing civil engineering drawings and documentation for land development and infrastructure projects.

Proficiency in 12d Model and AutoCAD.

Strong understanding of road design, earthworks, lot grading and stormwater drainage principles.

Sound knowledge of Australian Standards and local authority design requirements.

Excellent technical drafting, spatial awareness and problem-solving skills.

High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a professional team environment.

Experience using Civil 3D, Drains or MUSIC software.

Experience preparing documentation for subdivision and development projects.
