The Computing and Information Technology department within the Centre of Cyber Security and Digital Information Technology offers a comprehensive range of programs across web, gaming, programming, cyber security and general IT — from Certificate III through to Diploma and a Bachelor of Information Systems. Delivered across flexible modes including online, remote, trainee and school-based pathways, our programs are supported by a dedicated network environment, a live Cyber Security Operations Centre, and specialist cyber laboratories that give students hands-on experience with industry-grade tools and infrastructure.
The Computing and Information Technology Technical Lead is the principal technical authority for the CAIT discrete network and associated cyber security training environments. The role is responsible for the design, implementation, operation and continual improvement of the CAIT network infrastructure, the educational CSOC, NETLAB+ remote laboratory environment, cyber ranges, simulation platforms and specialist training laboratories. As a member of the CAIT Discrete Network Governance Committee, the Technical Lead works closely with the CIO, Dean, Head of Department and Technology Services Department, providing authoritative technical advice and strategic input that directly shapes the department's infrastructure and digital learning capability.
As a Computing and Information Technology Technical Lead, you will:

Lead the technical management, security and continuous improvement of the CAIT discrete network, including firewall configuration, VLAN segmentation, routing, VPN services and defence-in-depth security controls

Operate and develop the educational Cyber Security Operations Centre (CSOC), including SIEM platforms (Wazuh, ELK, Splunk), incident detection and response, threat analysis and cyber security training environments

Administer NETLAB+ environments, cyber ranges and specialist laboratories to support teaching, assessment and industry engagement

Act as a member of the CAIT Discrete Network Governance Committee, providing strategic advice to the CIO, Dean, Head of Department and TSD on network architecture, cyber risk and technology initiatives

Provide technical and IT support, including telephone and remote support, to teachers and students to maintain delivery of the department’s curriculum, and supervise a Graduate Technician (0.4 EFT)
To be successful, you’ll have:

Demonstrated specialist knowledge and hands-on experience in complex network infrastructure management, including firewall, routing, switching, VLAN, VPN and network security technologies

Proven experience operating an educational or enterprise CSOC, including SIEM platforms, security monitoring, incident detection and response, and cyber security training environments

Demonstrated experience administering NETLAB+ environments, virtual laboratories, cyber ranges and simulation platforms

Strong knowledge of cyber security controls and governance frameworks including the ACSC Essential Eight, VPDSF and Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 (Vic)

Diploma or Degree in Information Technology, Systems Administration or related discipline, or equivalent industry certifications
WWCC and Police Check:
Appointment to this position is dependent on obtaining a Victorian ‘employee’ Working with Children Check, and a valid Police Check within the last 12 months.
