Ready for the best career you never imagined?
The Port of Brisbane is a cornerstone of the Queensland economy. As the company entrusted to maintain and develop the Port and its operations, we play a vital and diverse role. And so will you.
The role
We’re looking for a People Business Partner to provide trusted, practical HR and IR advice across a diverse operational and corporate portfolio.
Reporting to the Head of People Team you’ll work closely with leaders to drive engagement, performance and capability – while also taking the lead on industrial relations matters, including:
- Conducting complex workplace investigations
- Managing and advising on employee relations and disciplinary matters
- Interpreting and applying Enterprise Agreements, Awards and legislation
- Supporting leaders through EA application, roster interpretation, workforce planning and change
- Coaching managers to confidently navigate people risk, compliance and best practice.
Alongside this, you’ll contribute to and deliver HR and people projects, giving you variety beyond day to day business partnering – this could span cultural safety, benefits, capability development, remuneration, and inclusion.
What you’ll bring
You’re a capable, collaborative HR professional that enjoys complexity and variety. You’re comfortable rolling up your sleeves on IR and ER matters, and you understand how well-designed people processes and culture enable performance.
You’ll bring:
- Strong employee and industrial relations experience, including investigations and EA interpretation
- Proven ability to build trusted relationships quickly with leaders and teams
- Confidence advising on sensitive, high-risk or ambiguous people issues
- Experience supporting workforce planning, rosters, and operational environments
- A continuous improvement mindset — you look for better ways of doing things
- Tertiary qualification in Human Resources or a related discipline
You’re resilient, solutions-focused and thrive in a small, high-trust People team where everyone pitches in.
Five reasons why we hope you’ll apply.
You’ll enjoy some great benefits, including Flex-Work, 18 weeks paid parental leave (gender neutral), options to purchase leave, free EV charging stations, a subsidised Café, a Healthy Lifestyle Program including a free on-site gym, and a commitment to developing our people. But joining us in this role should mean so much more.
1. A diverse role where every day’s different
You’ll partner with managers and Executives across a wide range of functions while contributing to projects that strengthen culture, capability, inclusion, wellbeing and systems.
2. An important job, a powerful purpose
What we do impacts Queenslanders every day. Having the right people, in the right roles, supported to perform safely and well, genuinely matters here
3. A place where flexibility matters too
We know flexibility looks different at different life stages. Full-time or a 4-day week, flexible start and finish times and work from home, let’s talk about what works.
4. A welcoming, supportive culture
We’re proud to be a People team that champions culture, care, connection and psychological and cultural safety. From partnering with leaders to embed Port of Brisbane’s behavioural and leadership commitments, to benchmarking with organisations like Parents at Work and WGEA- we’re continually strengthening our culture and support frameworks and programs.
5. A proud reputation; a bright future
We’re proud of what we’ve built, but we’re not standing still. Your ideas, experience and perspective will be welcomed and valued.
This bit matters!
