Experienced Support Worker Required – Day Shifts & Potential Inactive Overnight Supports
We are seeking a compassionate, mature, and experienced Support Worker to provide ongoing support to a 47-year-old female participant living with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) and complex anxiety-related support needs.
About the Participant
Our participant is a kind-hearted woman with a great sense of humour who values genuine connections and consistency in her support team. Building trust and rapport is extremely important, and once a strong relationship is established, she is warm, engaging, and highly appreciative of quality support.
She also experiences significant hearing difficulties, which can create barriers to communication. For this reason, it is essential that support workers have clear, fluent English communication skills and are able to speak clearly and confidently. Effective communication plays a critical role in reducing misunderstandings, supporting her wellbeing, and building a positive working relationship.
Like many people living with significant anxiety, she can experience periods of heightened stress which may influence how she communicates and interacts with others. During these times, she may present as demanding, direct, or require additional reassurance. An understanding, patient, and calm approach is essential. It is important that support workers can remain professional, avoid taking communication personally, and understand that these presentations are often driven by anxiety rather than intent.
The participant generally responds best to mature female support workers, although mature male applicants with the right experience and approach will also be considered.
The ideal candidate will be:
- A mature female support worker (mature males may also be considered)
- Calm, patient, emotionally resilient, and confident
- Fluent in English with clear verbal communication skills
- Able to communicate effectively with someone who experiences hearing difficulties
- Experienced supporting participants with complex anxiety and behavioural presentations
- Experienced supporting individuals with FND or similar neurological conditions (highly regarded)
- Able to remain professional and not take challenging communication personally
- Skilled at setting respectful boundaries while maintaining a supportive approach
- Reliable, consistent, and committed to building long-term rapport
