Champion Ear Health in Community — Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner
This part-time, ongoing role at Flinders Medical Centre places you at the heart of a meaningful ear health initiative, working across community and clinical settings to improve outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across southern Adelaide. You'll work closely with the SALHN Audiology Ear Health Clinical Lead, General Practitioners, and allied health teams to deliver culturally responsive programs that make ear health accessible and community driven. About the role:
Reporting to the Clinical Lead, Aboriginal Ear Health, this role will focus on supporting and implementing the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Ear Health project. The aim of the project is to increase access to culturally responsive, preventative and proactive ear health programs by engaging with community and key stakeholders and promote ear health becoming everyone’s business.
Duties for the role will include:
- Plan, implementing and reviewing appropriate interventions such as referrals, screening and advocacy,
- Assist in client consultations,
- Participating in case conferences and in share care planning for clients,
- Assist with developing and implementing culturally appropriate early detection ear health programs so that checking ears becomes ‘everyone’s business’,
- Establish, develop and maintain effective strategic networks and partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders, in particular with Aboriginal communities,
- Contribute to the delivery of the Ear Health project, in the community and in the clinic setting
About you:
- Hold or working towards Certificate IV in Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (Practice) or equivalent,
- Be eligible for registration with the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health Practice Board of Australia (ATSIHPBA),
- Demonstrated ability to work in a culturally sensitive manner with Aboriginal individuals, families and communities,
- Demonstrated ability to undertake basic clinical procedures and health screening,
- Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally,
- Ability to work collaboratively with health professionals from a range of disciplines,
- Demonstrated ability to work under limited directions both independently and part of a multidisciplinary team,
- High level experience in advocacy and community development and engagement,
- Demonstrated experience in working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people in a community setting,
- Experience working in a primary health care and/or multidisciplinary setting,
- Experience in working closely with Aboriginal and mainstream service providers
