Primary objective
The position provides pedagogical leadership, advice and support to enhance the quality of early childhood education and care
programs across the Northern Territory. The role works collaboratively with educators, leaders and service providers to strengthen
curriculum, teaching and learning practices, support continuity of learning for children from birth to eight years of age, and promote
the implementation of high-quality, evidence-informed practices across NT Government and sector early childhood settings.
Context statement
The Early Childhood branch provides strategic leadership to deliver high-quality, integrated early childhood services and programs,
and reforms that maximise outcomes for children and young people across the Northern Territory. The branch, which includes the
NT regulatory authority Quality Education and Care NT, leads key policy initiatives, programs and regulatory functions, provides
expert advice to the Minister and senior executives, and works collaboratively with stakeholders across the early childhood
education and care sector.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Establish and maintain effective working relationships and professional credibility with early years services, the public and
key stakeholders.
2. Provide pedagogical support, early childhood curriculum and program advice and support including professional learning
materials, programs and resources, and supervised practice, coaching, mentoring and modelling.
3. Produce high quality written documents as required and demonstrate the ability to work independently on allocated work.
4. Work collaboratively and cooperatively with members of the NT Regulatory Authority and members of other state and
territory governments and key stakeholders to provide and receive critical feedback in a quality assurance environment
5. Interpret and apply relevant legislation, protocols and procedures within the legal framework that underpins the Education
and Care Services (National Uniform Legislation) Act 2011
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Detailed knowledge and understanding of the National Quality Framework.
2. A strong understanding of the complexities of providing quality early childhood educational and developmental outcomes,
including related issues and sensitives regarding service delivery in urban, rural, remote and very remote settings.
3. Knowledge and experience in quality improvement processes, as well as a thorough understanding of legislation and policies
relevant to the early childhood sector.
4. Demonstrated knowledge of the Early Years Learning Framework, My Time Our Place, Framework for School Age Care, and
a high-level knowledge of current developments and established practices in early childhood planning and programming.
5. Demonstrated high level oral, written and communication skills including an ability to interact effectively with people from
diverse cultures and a proven ability to effectively manage communication across diverse stakeholders.
Desirable
1. Qualification in early childhood education and care or other relevant profession
Further information
Applicants are required to have a current working with children clearance notice (Ochre Card), a current driver’s licence, and be
willing to travel remotely by 4WD and in light aircraft. This position requires staying overnight in remote communities.
