As a Mental Health Social Worker, you will play an important role in supporting participants with complex needs through compassionate, person-centred care, advocacy and therapeutic intervention within a multidisciplinary environment.
About the Role
Joining our Case Assessment Clinical Team (CACT) in NSW, you will be part of a specialist multidisciplinary team supporting SRSS participants with complex needs, including individuals transitioning from custody as well as those already living in the community (such as community detention).
This Mental Health Social Worker role focuses on delivering high-quality mental health social work support to participants with complex needs. You will conduct psychosocial assessments, contribute to treatment planning, provide therapeutic and practical support, and advocate for participants to access the services they need. Working closely with internal teams and external providers, you will help participants navigate challenges, build independence and progress toward their goals.
This position is a full-time max term contract until end of June 2027, working hybrid from our Parramatta office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake participant assessments to understand mental health, psychosocial and support needs.
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement treatment and support plans.
- Monitor participant progress and adapt interventions in response to changing needs.
- Provide advocacy and attend case conferences to support positive participant outcomes.
- Maintain accurate, timely and compliant participant records and case notes.
- Respond to crisis situations, including implementing safety plans and liaising with mental health services and family members where appropriate.
- Support participants to build independent living skills and work toward their goals.
- Develop effective working relationships with internal stakeholders and external service providers.
About You
You are a compassionate, resilient and culturally responsive social work professional who is confident supporting people with complex mental health and psychosocial needs. You build trusted helping relationships, communicate effectively with diverse communities, and enjoy working collaboratively in a team environment.
- A four-year undergraduate degree or a two-year Master’s degree in Social Work accredited by the Australian Association of Social Workers.
- Accredited Mental Health Social Worker status, or specialist training and experience supporting people with diagnosed mental health conditions.
- Demonstrated ability to assess needs, coordinate supports and contribute to treatment planning.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage respectfully with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Experience working with multicultural communities is highly regarded.
- Experience supporting clients with complex presentations, including crisis situations, is highly regarded.
