About the Role
The Senior District Manager, Communications and Engagement provides strategic leadership and direction for the organisation's communications, engagement, and marketing functions, driving initiatives that strengthen reputation, support organisational priorities and deliver meaningful cultural transformation. Reporting to the Director, Office of the Chief Executive, the role leads the development and implementation of integrated communication and marketing strategies that engage internal and external audiences, enhance stakeholder relationships, and promote organisational achievements.
As a trusted adviser to the Chief Executive and Executive Leadership Team, the position provides expert counsel on communication strategy, media relations, reputation management, stakeholder engagement, and emerging issues. The role oversees high profile media engagement, crisis communications, public affairs, and change management initiatives, ensuring the organisation maintains a proactive, consistent, and professional approach to communications.
Leading multidisciplinary teams across communications, engagement, public relations and multimedia services, the Senior District Manager fosters a culture of innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement while championing organisational values and employee engagement. The role is responsible for building strong partnerships across government, industry, media, and the community, overseeing strategic marketing campaigns, ensuring compliance with governance and brand standards, and using data-driven insights to evaluate communication outcomes and support organisational success.
This is a Full Time Permanent role based within the Mid North Coast Local Health District, with offices in Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie.
About You
You are a strategic communications and engagement leader with extensive experience delivering high impact communications, public affairs, media relations, issues management and marketing initiatives within large and complex service-based organisations. With a strong understanding of the political, social and policy environments that influence organisational outcomes, you have successfully developed and implemented communication strategies that strengthen reputation, support organisational priorities, and engage diverse stakeholder groups across multiple channels.
You bring proven leadership experience in building, coaching, and developing high performing teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and customer focused service delivery. Your ability to analyse complex information, identify emerging issues and provide sound strategic advice enables you to support executive decision making and effectively manage organisational risk, reputation, and stakeholder expectations. An accomplished communicator, you possess exceptional editorial, presentation, and media management skills, with extensive experience preparing communication strategies, executive briefings, speeches, reports and high-profile public communications. You have a demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with executive leaders, government agencies, media representatives and community stakeholders, using strong influencing and negotiation skills to achieve positive organisational outcomes.
