About the Role
The Unaccredited Neurosurgery Registrar is involved in the daily management of patients in the outpatient, inpatient and surgical settings at St. Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. The position involves participation in the on-call roster which includes nights and weekends as well as participation in clinic audit meetings, journal club, neuropathology, neuroradiology, neurovascular meetings and tutorials. Research is highly encouraged in this position.
Duties include:

Assessing patients in clinic, emergency, planning operating schedules

Operating with various levels of supervision
-
monitoring post-operative progress of patients
-
Ensure complete documentation of admission and progress notes

Efficient running of the day to day activities of the unit

Mentoring and teaching junior staff
Classifications for this position will range from HM25 – HM30 ($129,048.40 – 177,622.12) pro rata for part-time.
Length of appointment: 02 February 2026 – 31 January 2027
What you will bring

Classification of PGY3 or greater
-
Full working rights in Australia

Hold current AHPRA registration

MBBS or equivalent

Hold a current, or willing to undergo a satisfactory National Police Check

Have a commitment to deliver the best in patient care and safety

Demonstrated experience applying medical knowledge towards sound clinical diagnosis, investigation and treatment of patients

Demonstrated effective communication with patients, relatives, staff and colleagues
About the Neurosurgery Department
The Neurosurgery department provides a complete range of acute and elective neurosurgical care to the entire state of Victoria.
Sub specialisation within the team has allowed all neurological conditions to be cared for with the highest level of available expertise. Our complete patient care model involves preadmission clinics, clinical pathways and multidisciplinary clinics including Neuro-oncology, Base of Skull and Neurovascular.
