The Opportunity
We’re seeking an experienced Technical Writer & Illustrator to join a high-performing team supporting the development of technical publications for advanced aerospace and technology systems.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys transforming complex engineering and technical information into clear, accurate and visually engaging documentation. Working alongside engineers, technical specialists and key stakeholders, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring important operational, maintenance and training information is delivered to the highest quality standards.
Based in Brisbane with flexible remote working options available, this opportunity offers the chance to contribute to meaningful and technically challenging projects within the Defence and national security sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop technical manuals, procedures, training materials and user documentation.
- Create and maintain technical illustrations, diagrams, schematics, exploded views and other visual assets.
- Produce and update publication content based on engineering changes, stakeholder reviews and customer feedback.
- Review technical publications to ensure accuracy, quality and compliance with applicable standards.
- Support the development and maintenance of structured technical publication datasets.
- Collaborate with engineering and technical teams to resolve information gaps and ensure publication quality.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of documentation processes and publication standards.
About You
To be successful, you’ll bring experience producing technical documentation and illustrations within aerospace, Defence, engineering or similarly complex environments.
You’ll ideally have:
- Experience developing technical publications for complex systems.
- Strong technical illustration skills using tools such as Adobe Illustrator, IsoDraw, Creo Illustrate or similar platforms.
- Experience working within structured authoring and publishing environments.
- Knowledge of S1000D technical publication standards and Integrated Electronic Technical Manuals (IETM).
- Experience working with XML or SGML-based documentation.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret technical information and translate it into user-friendly content.
Mandatory Requirements
- Current NV1 Security Clearance or higher.
- Australian Citizenship.
- Ability to meet any additional security, client and onboarding requirements as required.
