We're looking for a warm, capable Student Counsellor to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis. You will be the first point of contact for students who need support, whether that's academic stress, personal challenges, course progression concerns, or simply someone to talk to. You'll work closely with trainers, assessors, and compliance staff to make sure every student has a genuine pathway to success.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide one-on-one counselling and support to students
- Conduct intake assessments and develop individual support plans tailored to student needs
- Liaise with trainers and assessors to monitor student progress and flag concerns proactively
- Maintain accurate, confidential case notes and student records in line with privacy obligations
- Refer students to appropriate external services (mental health, financial, legal, or community supports) where required
- Support the College's compliance with the Standards for RTOs 2015, including student support and grievance-handling requirements
- Assist in developing and delivering student wellbeing initiatives, workshops, and orientation sessions
ABOUT YOU
- Bachelor degree in Counselling, Psychology, or a related discipline
- Minimum 12 months' relevant work experience in a counselling, student support, or welfare role
- Sound understanding of confidentiality, ethical practice, and duty of care principles
- Excellent interpersonal and active listening skills, with the ability to build trust quickly
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied caseload
- Experience working within a VET, RTO, or broader education environment highly regarded
- A calm, empathetic, and solutions-focused approach under pressure
