Collections Officer – Commercial & Consumer

Are you a confident negotiator who knows how to balance firm, compliant collections with genuine empathy? We're recruiting on behalf of a well-established and highly regarded debt recovery firm in Cheltenham, looking for a Collections Officer to join their Commercial, Consumer & Legal Recoveries team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced collections professional to manage a diverse portfolio of commercial and consumer accounts, working closely with clients, solicitors and internal teams to drive strong recovery outcomes.
What you'll be doing
- You'll manage an end-to-end portfolio of overdue accounts, from first contact through to resolution or legal escalation.
- Day to day, you'll conduct outbound collection calls and correspondence, negotiating payment outcomes with professionalism and confidence.
- You'll structure and monitor realistic payment arrangements, issue formal demand notices, and prepare documentation for legal escalation in liaison with solicitors.
- You'll keep clients and stakeholders updated on recovery progress, maintain accurate
- records across internal systems, and help identify accounts that need alternative recovery strategies.
- You'll also contribute ideas to improve processes and team best practice.
What you'll bring
- Experience in debt collection or accounts receivable
- Strong negotiation and communication skills
- Working knowledge of relevant debt recovery legislation
- Confidence liaising with solicitors and clients High attention to detail and strong organisational skills
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Experience with Debtcol or similar debt recovery software,
- Exposure to both commercial and consumer collections, or
- Knowledge of commercial litigation and civil procedure will be highly regarded but isn't essential.
- No formal qualifications required.

This is a full-time, on-site role based in Cheltenham, working a standard 38-hour week, Monday to Friday. A satisfactory police check and medical check may be required.
