Officer – Work, Health and Safety (Full-time/ 1 FTE)
About WAAC
Established in 1985, WAAC is a non-profit organisation, primarily funded by the WA Department of Health. WAAC’s purpose is to optimise the health and wellbeing of all, through reducing the impact of stigma and discrimination, improving access to health services and information and reducing transmission of HIV, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and blood-borne viruses (BBVs).
WAAC has been involved with the LGBTIQA+ community since its inception. However, a focus for support of LGBTIQA+ young people began in 1994, with the commencement of the Freedom Centre – an LGBTIQA+ peer led safe space. Freedom Centre, funded by the WA Mental Health Commission, has continued to operate to the present day, while continuing to adapt to the everchanging needs of LGBTIQA+ young people. Freedom is in an exciting time of growth and development, requiring the current service to establish its own strategic business stream, to work alongside, partner and complement the other four strategic business streams within WAAC.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a motivated and proactive Officer – Work, Health and Safety to join our People & Culture team. This role partners closely with teams across WAAC to implement and maintain WHS, risk management, and accreditation frameworks that ensure a safe, inclusive, and high-performing workplace.
In this role, you’ll play a key part in fostering a positive safety culture—both physical and psychosocial—while ensuring WAAC remains compliant with current WHS legislation, including the new psychosocial safety regulations and Code of Practice in Western Australia. You’ll contribute to everything from incident reviews and emergency planning to policy development and staff training.
This is a full-time (1 FTE) opportunity, working 37.5 hours per week, based at our Perth office, and reporting to the Manager – People and Culture.

You bring at least two years’ experience in WHS or risk-related roles, and you’re passionate about creating safe, respectful, and inclusive environments—especially those with a strong focus on community wellbeing.
You’re a proactive problem-solver who thrives in dynamic, people-focused settings. Whether you’re coordinating training, managing policies, reviewing incidents, or supporting staff wellbeing, you work with care, integrity, and purpose.
You’re also someone who:
- Is familiar with psychosocial risk management and the evolving WHS landscape.
- Communicates clearly and professionally across all levels of an organisation.
- Works collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders, internally and externally.
