Primary objective
Work as part of the Executive Team to lead the design, development, implementation and evaluation of programs and policies pertinent
to the Curriculum Team work unit. Provide quality educational leadership in supporting students with diverse learning needs, flexible
options and evidence-based strategies to support students to complete their NTCET and successfully transition to post-school pathways.
Context statement
The NT School of Distance Education (NTSDE) supports and delivers a range of educational services to students resident in the Northern
Territory or temporarily living interstate or overseas. The school also collaborates with schools to support educators to deliver high-quality,
innovative and flexible senior secondary online programs. Teachers must be able to deliver and develop learning programs aligned with
our Instructional Model. Teachers must be prepared to travel, use advanced online technologies, and teach online and face-to-face.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead the Curriculum Team to ensure effective day-to-day teaching and learning, high-quality curriculum delivery, teacher
performance and development, recruitment processes, and the operational systems required to meet NTSDE, departmental and
compliance requirements.
2. Ensure systematic methods for collecting and interpreting evidence to identify exemplary teaching and learning; use data to improve
school performance and share best management practice and use of resources appropriately.
3. Provide educational leadership consistent with the vision and values of NTSDE and be responsible for school-wide portfolios as
identified by the principal.
4. Provide policy advice and direction to NTSDE staff consistent with NT Government and Department of Education and Training
policies.
5. Undertake a teaching load as required.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Ability to model best teaching practice and be committed and capable of leading pedagogical change linked to recent research and
aligned to the school improvement agenda.
2. Demonstrated high-level leadership skills, including self-management, initiative, communication and interpersonal skills, and
experience creating and leading high-performing teams to implement a strategic improvement agenda that improves student
outcomes.
3. Demonstrated excellent knowledge and experience in leading whole school improvement strategies in the design and implementation
of secondary curriculum, course improvement, online pedagogies, senior secondary pathway planning and targeted intervention for
students at risk.
4. Demonstrated excellent knowledge of departmental policies and procedures, recruitment, human resource management and conflict
resolution processes.
5. Registration with the Teachers’ Registration Board of the NT and a current Working with Children clearance notice or the ability to
obtain.
Desirable
1. Qualifications in educational leadership and or management.
2. Knowledge of current educational theory and practice as it applies to online learning.
3. Experience as a distance education teacher or knowledge of distance education requirements.
