The Tax Accountant role exists to ensure Lactalis Australia meets all of its taxation compliance and reporting obligations across local and international jurisdictions. This includes preparing and lodging accurate tax returns, BAS/IAS, and statutory filings, maintaining robust supporting workpapers, and ensuring tax data is correctly recorded in the financial ledger.
The role is responsible for delivering timely and accurate tax reporting to both external stakeholders (e.g. ATO, auditors) and internal stakeholders (including Group/Head Office reporting)
Beyond compliance, the position supports the Taxation Manager by providing technical tax advice (direct and indirect taxes), assisting with cross-border and corporate tax matters, and contributing to business initiatives such as M&A, process improvements, and tax risk management.
Overall, the role exists to safeguard the organisation’s tax compliance, minimise risk, and support informed business decision-making through accurate tax analysis and reporting.
Key Responsibilities:

Prepare annual income tax returns and supporting workpapers to ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
- Prepare and lodge Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) returns, including delivering payroll-related FBT outputs such as reportable benefits schedules.

Complete monthly BAS/IAS returns for all entities, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of indirect tax reporting.
- Produce six‑monthly tax estimates, group tax reporting schedules, and support auditor review processes.
- Maintain and review tax-sensitive general ledger accounts, ensuring accurate posting of tax journals and true-up adjustments.
- Provide technical tax advice to the business on corporate tax, international tax, GST, and FBT matters.
- Conduct ad hoc tax research and proactively identify and implement process improvements in conjunction with the Taxation Manager.
- Support cross-border tax compliance, including transfer pricing, withholding taxes, and international reporting obligations.
- Assist with M&A activities and major projects by providing tax input on structuring, due diligence, and integration considerations.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders (e.g. payroll, HR, finance) and external parties (e.g. auditors, tax and state revenue authorities) to ensure end-to-end tax compliance and service delivery.
Technical Skills:

2 - 3 years’ experience in a professional firm, or tax office of a corporation, preferably Big 4 experience or second-tier firm.

Moderate level of knowledge and experience in the management of corporate tax and the Australian Tax regime.
- Moderate level of knowledge and experience in GST and FBT.
- Working knowledge of international taxation and the management of inbound/outbound mobility matters, whilst not essential, would be an advantage.

Moderate level of skill in the use of tax and FBT return preparation software preferable.
