About the Role:
As a Patient Support Officer, you'll play an integral role in supporting the smooth and efficient operation of the busy Surgical Services Operating Theatre Suite at John Hunter Hospital. Working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, you'll provide high-quality administrative support that underpins the delivery of exceptional patient care across a diverse range of surgical specialties.
As the first point of contact for patients, visitors, clinicians, and the multidisciplinary team, you'll deliver professional and compassionate customer service through face-to-face interactions, telephone enquiries, and electronic communications. Your strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to effectively manage competing priorities will enable you to thrive both independently and as a valued member of a collaborative team.
In this varied and rewarding role, you'll be responsible for accurately coding post-procedural operating theatre reports, maintaining data integrity through daily audits and reporting, and supporting the coordination of theatre activity. Working closely with Nurse Unit Managers, theatre nurses, clinicians, and a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, you'll help ensure patients progress through their surgical journey efficiently and arrive on time for their procedures, contributing to the seamless delivery of surgical services.
The successful applicant will be supported from day one with a comprehensive orientation program and structured, hands-on training alongside experienced Patient Support Officers within Surgical Services. This tailored onboarding experience is designed to build confidence and capability across all aspects of the role, ensuring a smooth transition into the team.
Alongside face-to-face mentoring, you'll complete relevant online learning modules and benefit from ongoing guidance from a knowledgeable, supportive team that values collaboration and continuous learning. To be successful in this role, you will hold, or be willing to undertake, a Certificate III in Health Administration (or equivalent).

Thursday: 2:45 pm – 9:15 pm (6 hours)
Friday: 2:45 pm – 9:15 pm (6 hours)
Saturday: 2:45 pm – 9:15 pm (6 hours)
Sunday: 6:30 am – 3:00 pm (8 hours)
Week 2
Saturday: 6:30 am – 3:00 pm (8 hours)
