1st XI Cricket Coach

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The 1st XI Cricket Coach is a key member of the Barker Sports Department, contributing to a high-
performing program grounded in the College’s core values of Commitment, Compassion, Courage,
Integrity and Respect. As part of the broader Barker community, the successful candidate will play a
central role in shaping both the performance and character development of student-athletes.

The 1st XI Coach is responsible for leading the College’s premier cricket team, establishing a clear
performance vision and fostering a culture of excellence, professionalism and growth. This includes
planning and delivering high-quality training environments, match preparation and game-day coaching
aligned with the strategic direction of the Cricket Program and wider Sport Department.

Working closely with the Director of Cricket, Head of Sport, Sports Administration and fellow coaching
staff, the 1st XI Coach will contribute to the ongoing development of the Cricket Program. The role also
supports the mentoring and development of coaching staff, promoting high standards of coaching
practice across the program.

Through strong knowledge of College policies and a commitment to best practice in coaching, the 1st XI
Coach will help drive a connected, values-based cricket program that develops skilled, resilient and
team-oriented players.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Coaching & Player Development

 Plan and deliver high-quality coaching sessions aligned to the Barker cricket program
 Develop technical, tactical, and mental skills of players within the Barker cricket coaching

framework
 Provide individual feedback and development plans for squad members
 Foster leadership, teamwork, and positive sporting behaviours

2. Session Planning & Delivery

 Design structured, purposeful training sessions with clear objectives
 Ensure sessions are engaging, progressive, and match-relevant
 Collaborate with strength & conditioning and other specialist staff where applicable

3. Team Selection & Management

 Lead selection of the 1st XI squad in consultation with Director of Cricket and independent
selectors

 Manage squad rotation, player roles, and match strategies
 Oversee team communication, expectations, and standards

4. Match Day Coaching

 Prepare the team for all trial and CAS competition matches
 Implement game plans and tactics on match days
 Conduct pre- and post-match reviews

People & Culture

5. Availability & Commitment

 Attend all scheduled training sessions (Tuesday and Thursday afternoons), trial matches
(including mid-week games during school holidays), and Saturday CAS fixtures (Terms 4 and
1).

 Participate in selection meetings, season planning, and review processes

6. Program Contribution

 Contribute to the broader Barker cricket program and culture
 Support alignment across age groups and pathways
 Mentor junior coaches where appropriate

SPECIFIC EXPECTATIONS

 Minimum Cricket Australia Representative Coach Accreditation (Level 2)
 Current Working with Children Check (WWCC)
 Current First Aid and CPR Certificate
 Demonstrated experience coaching high-level school, club, or representative cricket
