Position Summary
The Camera Operator operates camera and associated production equipment to capture
high-quality video content for studio, location, commercial, corporate and digital media
productions.
The role applies strong technical camera operation skills and attention to detail, working
closely with directors, producers, lighting technicians, sound technicians and other
production staff to achieve the required visual outcome.
Key Responsibilities
- Select, prepare and attach suitable camera equipment, lenses and accessories for
filming and production work.
- Position and operate cameras during filming, studio recording and location shoots.
- Follow the action of scenes being filmed while adjusting camera controls, framing,
focus, exposure and movement as required.
- Set up and adjust camera equipment, tripods, stabilisers, monitors and related
production equipment.
- Work with lighting and production staff to position equipment, cables and lighting in
accordance with production requirements.
- Assist with setting up and monitoring recording, editing and production equipment as
required.
- Check and maintain camera equipment and accessories to ensure they are operating
correctly.
- Identify and report equipment faults and assist with basic troubleshooting during
production.
- Follow production schedules, scripts, shot lists and direction from senior production
staff.
- Maintain safe work practices when handling camera equipment, lighting, cables and
studio/location production equipment.
Qualifications and Experience
The position requires:
- AQF Certificate IV or AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job
training.
- Proven experience of 1 year as a Camera Operator or in a closely related production
role.
