About the Role:
This is a full-time position offering an annual salary of $ 76,500 – $82,500 plus superannuation, based in Preston, Victoria. The role presents an excellent opportunity for an experienced Welder to work within a professional engineering and fabrication environment.
Responsibilities
Blueprint Interpretation & Material Preparation
- Study drawings, and specifications to determine job requirements, measurements, and welding procedures.
- Select, clean, and prepare metal stock in accordance with project specifications and fabrication requirements.
- Cut marked-out metal sections and shapes using hand tools, and metal cutting machines.
- Shape and bend metal sections using hand and machine tools, and by heating and hammering where required.
Welding, Fabrication & Assembly
- Align parts to be joined using hand tools and measuring instruments to ensure dimensional accuracy and proper fit.
- Join metal sections using various welding techniques, bolting, and riveting in accordance with engineering drawings and Australian Standards.
- Operate welding machines, grinders, and fabrication equipment safely and effectively to complete assigned tasks.
- Examine welds for width of bead, penetration, and precision to ensure structural integrity and quality workmanship.
Finishing & Quality Assurance
- Finish fabricated products by cleaning, polishing and filing, where required.
- Clean and smooth welds by grinding and sanding to achieve high-quality finishes and compliance with project standards.
- Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with company standards, project specifications, and workplace safety requirements.
- Identify defects, inconsistencies, or equipment issues and report them promptly to supervisors.
Health, Safety & Site Maintenance
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE), to maintain a safe working environment.
- Ensure all welding and fabrication activities comply with company policies, Australian Standards, and workplace regulations.
- Maintain tools, welding equipment, and work areas in a clean, organised, and operational condition at all times.
- Participate in toolbox meetings, safety training, and continuous improvement initiatives as required.
Job Requirements
- A minimum of AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV in Welding and Fabrication or a related trade qualification.
- Minimum 2 of relevant experience in a similar welding or metal fabrication role within an engineering, manufacturing, or construction environment.
- Strong knowledge of welding techniques, metal fabrication processes, and welding safety procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, measurements, and technical specifications accurately.
- Experience operating welding machines, grinders, cutting equipment, and fabrication tools safely and effectively.
- Current driver’s license and reliable transport preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality workmanship.
- Good physical stamina and the ability to perform manual labor, including lifting and standing for extended periods.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to meet project deadlines.
- Commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and compliant workplace in line with workplace health and safety standards.
- Reliable, punctual, and motivated with a positive work ethic and willingness to adapt to changing project requirements.
Pay: $76,500.00 – $82,500.00 per year
