We are currently seeking experienced Machinists (medium to heavy capability) and qualified Fitters for a permanent full-time Leading Hand role within our busy and growing workshop.
About the Role
This is a hands-on leadership position working closely with the Department Manager. The successful candidate will combine strong technical machining ability with leadership, coordination, and workshop support responsibilities.
You will be involved in:
- Operating CNC and manual lathes, mills, and borers to close tolerances (essential)
- Supporting job scheduling and workflow coordination
- Problem-solving and assisting with technical challenges on the shop floor
- Mentoring and guiding apprentices
- Performing a mix of hands-on machining work and supervisory duties
- Basic quality assurance (QA) checks and documentation
- Supporting WHS (Work Health & Safety) compliance
- Liaising with suppliers and customers when required
About You
We are looking for someone with strong industry experience and a practical, solutions-focused approach. Ideally, you will have:
- Proven experience in machining (manual and CNC)
- Ability to operate lathes, mills, and borers to close tolerances
- Strong understanding of workshop practices and local industry standards
- Previous leading hand or senior machinist experience (highly regarded)
- Good communication and organisational skills
- Ability to mentor and support apprentices
- A proactive attitude toward safety, quality, and teamwork
