Where you’ll be working
Maitland Hospital’s Acute Pain Service (APS) is a well-established, 7-day service delivering specialist pain management across the hospital. Working Monday to Friday, you’ll collaborate closely with an Anaesthetics Registrar and Consultant, supporting patients with complex pain needs including PCA, ketamine infusions, nerve blocks, and other advanced pain modalities. The APS operates within the peri-operative unit, offering a highly collaborative and clinically engaging environment.
About the role
This is a rewarding opportunity to join a supportive and knowledgeable team, where you’ll play a key role in delivering patient centred, evidence based pain management. You’ll work across multidisciplinary teams to assess, plan and optimise pain care, while also contributing to education and service development.
Key responsibilities include:

Generating and managing the daily APS patient list

Conducting comprehensive pain assessments, including sociopsychobio contributors

Supporting and guiding staff in adherence to pain management guidelines

Collaborating with treating teams to align pain management plans with patient care timelines
-
Advocating for safe and appropriate opioid stewardship
-
Providing evidence-based advice for complex pain consultations

Maintaining APS patient databases and documentation
-
Contributing to clinical procedure development and quality improvement initiatives

Delivering education to staff, patients, and families

Supporting competency assessment and credentialling of staff
