The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and people-focused Payroll Team Leader to join our Group Payroll team. This is an exciting leadership opportunity for a payroll professional who thrives in a fast-paced, complex environment and is passionate about delivering exceptional service while leading and developing high-performing teams.
As Payroll Team Leader, you will lead a team responsible for delivering accurate, timely and compliant payroll services to more than 11,000 employees across multiple states. Working closely with the Payroll Manager, you will oversee day-to-day payroll operations while ensuring legislative compliance, operational excellence and a strong customer service culture.
You will play a key role in driving continuous improvement initiatives, strengthening payroll governance and supporting the ongoing development and capability of your team.
What You'll Do
Lead and support a team of payroll professionals to deliver accurate and timely payroll services
Oversee end-to-end payroll processing across a large and complex workforce
Ensure compliance with payroll legislation, awards, enterprise agreements and organisational policies
Manage and review payroll activities including STP submissions, superannuation reconciliations, end-of-month and EOFY processes
Provide expert advice and guidance on payroll matters to employees, managers and key stakeholders
Monitor team performance, workload distribution and service delivery outcomes
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance payroll processes, systems and operational efficiency
Analyse payroll data and identify trends, risks and improvement opportunities
Maintain strong governance and compliance frameworks across payroll operations
Partner with HR, Finance and operational stakeholders to deliver high-quality payroll services
Foster an inclusive, collaborative and high-performing team culture focused on exceptional customer service
Contribute to projects and initiatives that support the ongoing evolution of the payroll function
About You
You are an experienced payroll leader with strong technical expertise, exceptional attention to detail and a passion for developing people. You thrive in complex environments, enjoy solving problems and are committed to delivering outstanding customer service.
You bring strong interpersonal skills, sound judgement and the ability to build trusted relationships across a diverse stakeholder group.
Key Experience & Capability
Proven experience leading payroll teams within large and complex organisations
Demonstrated end-to-end payroll experience, including payroll processing, superannuation, STP, EOFY and reporting activities
Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, awards, enterprise agreements and compliance requirements
Experience leading, coaching and developing team members to achieve high performance
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve complex payroll issues
Strong stakeholder engagement and customer service capabilities
Experience implementing process improvements and driving operational efficiencies
Sound understanding of HRIS, payroll and time and attendance systems
High level proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other payroll-related systems
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage competing priorities and meet critical deadlines in a fast-paced environment
