The Old Vic is a beautifully restored historic country hotel with 15 guest rooms, a licensed bar, private event spaces and a growing reputation for memorable country experiences.
We’re not looking for someone to walk into an already busy restaurant.
We’re looking for someone—or potentially a hospitality couple—who would like to help build one.
Initially, the kitchen will focus on:
● Private functions and events
● Wedding and corporate catering
● Monthly ticketed events
● Trial Friday and Saturday dinner service
● Trial breakfast and lunch services
● Catering for hotel guests, groups and special occasions
As demand grows, so will the role.
About You
You enjoy cooking honest, seasonal food that suits a country hotel rather than fine dining for the sake of it.
Our vision is modern European-inspired cooking using quality local produce, generous portions and a menu that people will travel for.
You may already be working elsewhere and looking for additional shifts, or you may enjoy the flexibility of casual work while helping shape something from the ground up.
We are also particularly interested in hearing from hospitality couples.
This could suit a chef with a partner experienced in front of house, events, housekeeping, guest services, marketing or general hotel operations. We are open to shaping the opportunity around the right people and their strengths.
What We Offer
● Casual hourly rate based on experience
● Performance bonuses or profit share as the kitchen grows
● Freedom to help create menus and shape the dining experience
● Flexible roster based around events and demand
● Potential to grow into a permanent Head Chef or kitchen leadership position
● Potential additional work for a partner across the hotel and events business
● Accommodation may be available for the right applicant or couple
About The Old Vic
We’re building a destination rather than just another pub.
Guests come for weekends away, weddings, family celebrations, corporate retreats, group stays and local events. Great food will be a central part of that experience.
This is an opportunity to help create a kitchen, menu and dining culture from the beginning—not simply step into another routine kitchen.
If that sounds exciting, we’d love to hear from you.
Please send your résumé, a little about yourself, and, where available, a few photos of your food. Couples are encouraged to tell us about both applicants and the type of roles that may suit each of you.
Pay: $50.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
