About the Role
We are seeking an Environmental Consultant to support the assessment and analysis of environmental, climate and sustainability information for clients and their supply chains.
The role involves analysing environmental and emissions data, assessing environmental and climate-related risks, identifying trends and anomalies, and preparing findings and recommendations to support clients in understanding and improving their environmental performance.
The successful candidate will combine strong analytical and research skills with an understanding of environmental and sustainability issues. You will work with senior team members to assess environmental information, investigate data quality issues, identify potential environmental risks and contribute to client environmental and sustainability deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse and assess environmental, climate and emissions data provided by clients and suppliers to support environmental and sustainability assessments.
- Conduct reviews of emissions data, identifying unusual year-on-year movements, emissions intensity outliers, significant variances and other trends that may indicate environmental risks or areas requiring further investigation.
- Analyse environmental and climate-related information against relevant sector benchmarks and other available environmental indicators to assess sustainability performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Assess climate and environmental risk information and identify potential environmental risks, inconsistencies and impacts requiring further investigation or escalation.
- Research and verify supplier and industry information, including industry classifications, corporate structures and other information relevant to environmental and sustainability assessments.
- Interpret and evaluate client-provided data to support the assessment of environmental performance, emissions and sustainability-related risks across supply chains.
- Prepare and document environmental findings, identified risks, data limitations, trends and recommended next steps for review by senior team members.
- Support the preparation of environmental and sustainability reports, assessments and client deliverables based on analysis of environmental, climate and ESG information.
- Provide research-based recommendations to assist in identifying opportunities to improve environmental performance, emissions management and sustainability practices.
- Liaise with clients to clarify environmental data requirements, resolve data issues and obtain information necessary to complete environmental assessments within agreed timeframes.
- Maintain accurate environmental datasets and ensure information used in environmental assessments is appropriately reviewed, standardised and documented.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of environmental assessment methodologies, workflows and quality-control processes.
- Monitor developments in environmental, climate and sustainability practices and contribute to the continuous improvement of the company's environmental assessment and consulting capabilities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Sustainability, Environmental Engineering, Ecology, Climate Science, or a related discipline.
- 1–2 years' experience in environmental consulting, sustainability, ESG, environmental data analysis, environmental research or a related field.
- Experience analysing environmental, emissions, climate or sustainability data will be highly regarded.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical and research capabilities, with the ability to interpret environmental and sustainability information and identify trends, risks and inconsistencies.
- Strong understanding of environmental and sustainability concepts, including emissions and climate-related risks.
- Advanced Excel capability, including data manipulation, analysis, cleansing and review.
- Experience with Power Query or similar data-analysis tools.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to critically assess the quality and reliability of environmental information.
- Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to investigate issues, identify underlying causes and develop practical recommendations.
- Ability to prepare clear and well-structured environmental findings, reports and recommendations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with senior consultants and other team members.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet client delivery timelines.
- Proactive approach to identifying environmental risks, improvement opportunities and process gaps.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in environmental consulting or sustainability consulting.
- Familiarity with greenhouse gas emissions, carbon accounting, climate risk or environmental performance assessment.
- Familiarity with ESG frameworks, sustainability reporting or supply-chain environmental assessments.
- Experience working with environmental or sustainability datasets.
- Knowledge of environmental management systems, environmental risk assessment or environmental impact assessment.
Pay range and compensation package
- Annual: $80,000.00 to $100,000.00 dependent on experience
