Join Banyule’s Transport and Engineering team as our Senior Development Engineer
Banyule City Council is seeking an experienced and customer-focused Senior Development Engineer to join our Transport and Engineering Department. This is an opportunity to apply your civil, drainage and development engineering expertise in a role that supports quality development outcomes, effective stormwater management and positive outcomes for our community.
About the role
In this role, you will assess the engineering components of residential, commercial and industrial developments and subdivisions, with a strong focus on stormwater drainage, flood risk, water-sensitive urban design and compliance with relevant legislation, Council policies, standards and specifications.
You will work closely with internal teams, developers, consultants, government agencies and community members, providing clear technical advice and helping to resolve development and drainage-related matters in a professional and timely way.
What you'll be doing
Reporting to the Development Engineering Team Leader, the Senior Development Engineer will provide professional drainage and civil development engineering advice and support the effective management of development and drainage-related applications, tasks and customer enquiries. You’ll:
- Support the Development Engineering Team Leader in the management, allocation, and timely completion of development and drainage-related applications, tasks, and customer enquiries.
- Investigate, assess and resolve drainage and drainage-related issues raised by the community, Council and external authorities, including consultation with relevant stakeholders and evaluation of options and solutions.
- Provide development, drainage and technical advice and expertise to the general community, Councillors, the development Engineering team and other Council Departments.
- Deliver high-quality customer service by providing timely, professional and accurate responses to enquiries, correspondence, complaints, consultations, and requests relating to drainage and development engineering matters.
About you
We are looking for a capable and collaborative engineering professional who can apply sound judgement, communicate complex technical matters clearly and manage competing priorities in a busy local government environment. You’ll bring:
- A degree in civil engineering or an equivalent engineering qualification recognised by the Institution of Engineers Australia.
- Demonstrated 5+ years of engineering experience in a relevant field, preferably local government, including development and land subdivision approvals (specifically drainage component), planning referrals, engineering design, on-site investigations, and project management.
- Proven ability to effectively communicate complex developments and drainage issues, recommendations, and decisions to leaders and internal/external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience in undertaking hydraulics and hydrology, conventional drainage design, and flood mapping/modelling development and computation.
- Sound knowledge of acts, regulations and policies relating to development/subdivision and drainage engineering.
Pre-employment requirements
- Drivers license
- A certificate of professional engineering registration/or eligible to obtain within three months of commencement of the role as required under the professional engineer's registration.
