Training Medical Officer

Australian Medical Research is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Training Medical Officer to join our clinical team.
This is an excellent training opportunity for a medical practitioner looking to develop clinical experience across hospital theatres, inpatient care, outpatient consultations and procedural medicine while working under the supervision of experienced medical practitioners.
About the Role
The Training Medical Officer will support our medical team across hospital and clinical environments, gaining practical experience in theatre coordination, patient assessment, inpatient ward rounds, procedural documentation and treatment planning within a multidisciplinary clinical setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate theatre lists, ensuring patients, equipment and clinical teams are prepared for procedures.
- Assist with patient preparation and post-operative care in collaboration with surgical and nursing teams.
- Prepare detailed operation reports and maintain accurate procedural documentation.
- Conduct inpatient ward rounds under supervision, reviewing patient progress and contributing to treatment plans.
- Perform patient examinations and assist with the assessment and diagnosis of referred patients.
- Order, review and interpret diagnostic investigations and laboratory results under appropriate supervision.
- Prepare procedure requests for diagnostic and interventional treatments and submit them to the case manager for review.
- Assist with hospital admissions, specialist referrals and multidisciplinary patient coordination.
- Develop and implement treatment plans, including prescribing medications where appropriate and under supervision.
- Maintain comprehensive, accurate and confidential medical records in accordance with professional and legal requirements.
- Work collaboratively with medical, nursing, administrative and other healthcare professionals to support high-quality patient care.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
- A medical degree (MBBS or equivalent).
- Current registration or eligibility for registration to practise medicine in Australia.
- A strong interest in clinical medicine, procedural care and hospital-based practice.
- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- A commitment to ongoing professional development and medical education.
- A professional, compassionate and patient-focused approach to healthcare.
Work Environment
The position will operate across hospital and clinical settings, providing exposure to surgical theatres, inpatient wards and outpatient consulting environments.
The successful candidate will work closely with medical practitioners, nursing staff, allied health professionals and administrative teams in a supportive clinical training environment.
