Job Summary
The Electrical Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, commissioning, and maintaining electrical systems and equipment. The role ensures that electrical installations and systems are safe, reliable, efficient, and compliant with relevant Australian standards, legislation, and project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop electrical systems, equipment, circuits, and installations.
- Prepare electrical drawings, schematics, specifications, calculations, and technical documentation.
- Perform electrical load calculations, fault-level studies, protection coordination, and system analysis.
- Select electrical equipment, components, cables, switchgear, control systems, and protection devices.
- Develop and review electrical designs using AutoCAD, Revit, ETAP, or other engineering software.
- Conduct inspections, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of electrical systems.
- Ensure electrical designs comply with relevant Australian Standards, electrical codes, safety requirements, and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare technical reports, engineering calculations, cost estimates, and project documentation.
- Work closely with mechanical, civil, structural, automation, and other engineering teams.
- Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, manufacturers, consultants, and project stakeholders.
- Support electrical installation, commissioning, maintenance, and project delivery activities.
- Identify technical risks and implement appropriate engineering solutions.
- Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, quality assurance, and safety inspections.
- Monitor project schedules, budgets, technical deliverables, and quality requirements.
- Investigate electrical faults, equipment failures, and system performance issues.
- Recommend improvements to electrical systems, energy efficiency, reliability, and operational performance.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Relevant experience in electrical engineering, design, construction, commissioning, or maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles and power systems.
- Experience with electrical design, calculations, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Proficiency in relevant engineering software such as AutoCAD, Revit, ETAP, SKM Power Tools, or similar.
- Knowledge of power distribution, electrical protection, switchboards, motors, control systems, and electrical equipment.
- Understanding of electrical safety, risk management, and quality-control requirements.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and project-management abilities.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional registration with Engineers Australia and/or Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status.
- Experience with Australian electrical standards, including relevant AS/NZS standards.
- Experience in power generation, renewable energy, mining, manufacturing, construction, infrastructure, utilities, or industrial projects.
- Knowledge of PLC, SCADA, instrumentation, and industrial control systems.
- Experience with electrical protection and power-system studies.
- Familiarity with Australian workplace health and safety requirements.
- Australian work rights or an appropriate Australian work visa.
