As a Senior Public Health Advisor in the Communicable Diseases Branch, Health Protection NSW, the role supports the development of policies and programs to protect public health.
The Communicable Diseases Branch (CDB) leads the strategic response to infectious diseases of public health significance, including vaccine-preventable diseases, respiratory viruses, tuberculosis, blood-borne viruses, sexually transmissible infections, and other notifiable conditions. Working collaboratively across CDB, the role contributes to prevention, preparedness and response activities that minimise the impact of communicable diseases in NSW.
The Senior Public Health Advisor provides strategic policy and program advice to managers, Executive, and other teams within the Communicable Diseases Branch on a range of communicable disease issues. The role supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of immunisation campaigns and other vaccine-related activities managed by the Branch.
This includes providing advice on campaign communications, developing and reviewing resources for the public and health professionals, liaising with stakeholders to facilitate engagement, and supporting collaboration across Health Protection NSW, the Ministry of Health, local health districts, primary healthcare providers and the Australian Government.
Key responsibilities include:
Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of immunisation campaigns, programs and other public health promotion initiatives, including supporting policy and resource development, stakeholder engagement and communication activities.
Prepare and support high-quality briefings, correspondence, reports, and ministerial responses that clearly communicate policy positions and provide accurate, timely, and evidence-based advice on communicable disease issues.
Represent CDB at key internal and external stakeholder meetings, working groups, and other forums, and provide support for advisory groups, consultations, and expert panels as required.
Maintain current knowledge of emerging evidence, research, and trends relevant to communicable disease prevention and control, in particular enablers and barriers to vaccination, identifying opportunities and risks and supporting associated research and evaluation activities.
Relevant tertiary qualifications in public health, epidemiology, health policy, or a related discipline, and/or equivalent experience.
Demonstrated experience in public health policy, program delivery, or communicable disease prevention and control.
Proven ability to develop, implement, and review evidence-based policy, guidelines, and program initiatives, and provide strategic advice on complex public health issues.
Excellent organisational skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes within tight timeframes.
Strong stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and relationship management skills, with experience working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and organisations.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively to achieve shared objectives in a complex and dynamic environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, concise, and audience-appropriate briefings, reports, correspondence, and communication materials.
