ABOUT THE POSITION:
This casual position provides practical technical support across Museums Victoria's sites, adapting to the operational needs of each venue to deliver safe, consistent and effective technical support for events, exhibitions, gallery spaces and public programs. The work spans audio-visual equipment, lighting, staging, projection, streaming, interactive technology, exhibition furniture and showcases.
You will be accountable for the safe, effective and skilful delivery of technical set up, operation and maintenance support, drawing on sound practical judgement, good mechanical aptitude and attention to detail across gallery, event, exhibition and back-of-house environments.
Some of the key duties include:
- Programming, operating and supporting lighting, audio and audio-visual systems to deliver safe, reliable and high-quality visitor experiences.
- Assisting with bump in, bump out and set up of technical and staging equipment for events and exhibitions, including staging, lighting, audio, projection, streaming, cameras and bespoke interactives.
- Setting up and operating technical equipment in galleries, outdoor spaces, theatres and conference venues across Museums Victoria's sites.
- Assisting with the preparation and set up of showcases, and assembling, installing and deinstalling exhibition furniture, structures and displays.
- Completing minor installation, deinstallation and changeover tasks, using practical experience to problem solve and escalate issues where required.
The successful applicant will have:
- Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in the technical operation of sound, theatre and event lighting, audio-visual equipment, hybrid delivery and streaming for events.
- Demonstrated experience, or a willingness to be trained, in installing and deinstalling interactives, showcases and associated exhibition materials in a museum, gallery or similar public environment.
- Demonstrated practical experience in minor repairs, including patching, painting and attaching fixtures or fittings in a public-facing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, communicate effectively and provide excellent customer service to a wide range of stakeholders.
- Proficiency, or a willingness to be trained and deemed competent, in the safe use of Elevated Work Platforms and a range of hand and power tools.
OTHER INFORMATION
This is a casual position. The rate on offer is VPS 2.2 - $45.50 per hour, inclusive of 25% casual loading (less applicable tax).
