Your Opportunity
The Family and Carer Mental Health Program supports families and carers of people living with mental illness through a comprehensive range of supports and services. The service works closely with families, carers, mental health support groups and networks, as well as local agencies and service providers across the NSW North Coast.
Reporting to the Program Manager, this role will see you utilise your strong engagement and motivational skills to provide emotional support, respite referrals, advocacy, and carer group support. You will build strong relationships with external partners to effectively identify carers, connect them with appropriate supports, and negotiate positive outcomes.
Based in Grafton, this role supports communities across both Grafton and Coffs Harbour, with regular travel required to Coffs Harbour. A pool vehicle is provided for all work-related travel. This is a fixed-term opportunity through to October 2027, with the possibility of an extension beyond this date.
This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate community services professional who enjoys working collaboratively, building meaningful stakeholder relationships, and making a positive difference in the lives of families and carers experiencing the impacts of mental illness.
Key responsibilities will include:

Respond to referrals of carers and families to the service from internal and external services

Conduct formal assessments of suitability for the program

Collaborate with carers and families to create individualised support plans

Provide ongoing case coordination and informal counselling as required

Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders

Maintain records and produce quality reports for the service
Requirements for Success:

Tertiary qualifications in Community Services/ Mental Health and/or relevant industry experience

Understanding of mental health issues and the effects on families
-
A personal lived experience of mental illness and recovery is desirable

Driver’s License
Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
