About the role
This is a Chef position in a commercial kitchen or restaurant environment, specialising in Indian cuisine. You will prepare and cook a variety of Indian dishes, including curries, tandoori items, biryanis, and vegetarian/vegan options, while maintaining authentic flavors and high food quality standards.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and cook a variety of Indian dishes, including curries, tandoori items, biryanis, and vegetarian/vegan options.
- Ensure dishes are seasoned correctly and maintain authentic Indian flavors.
- Work closely with head chef and other kitchen team and coordinate with management to prepare menus.
- Monitor food quality and ensure it meets restaurant standards.
- Operate and regulate kitchen equipment, including ovens, grills, and tandoors.
- Portion food accurately and enhance presentation with gravies, sauces, and garnishes.
- Maintain proper food storage to ensure freshness and prevent spoilage.
- Prepare meals to accommodate special dietary requirements (e.g., gluten-free, vegan).
- Train and mentor junior kitchen staff and apprentices.
- Ensure cleanliness and hygiene standards are met, following food safety regulations.
- Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a professional attitude.
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures and contribute to the smooth operation of the kitchen.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
- Proven experience working as a Chef in a commercial kitchen or restaurant environment
- Minimum Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualification
- At least 1 year of relevant experience as a Chef
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Indian cuisine and cooking techniques
- Strong organisational, teamwork, and communication skills
- Ability to follow recipes and maintain consistent food quality and presentation
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced kitchen environment
- Ability to work collaboratively with the Head Chef, kitchen staff, and management
- Ability to train and support junior kitchen staff and apprentices
- Willingness and flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required
Pay: $78,000.00 – $82,000.00 per year
