TPS Energy Australia Pty Ltd is a Hobart-based engineering and energy solutions company specialising in renewable energy systems, solar and wind solutions, and technical services. Beyond its own operations, TPS Energy also serves as the central management office for a group of affiliated companies under common ownership spanning the hospitality, retail, and postal services sectors across the Hobart region. The group includes the Saigon Express Restaurant chain, retail businesses, and licensed post offices, with a combined workforce of up to 100 employees.

The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to lead our Accounting Team and take full ownership of the group's financial operations. This is a critical leadership role reporting directly to senior management. You will be the financial nerve centre of a multi-entity group ensuring accuracy, discipline, and strategic thinking across all aspects of accounting, payroll, and cashflow.
This role commences on a fixed-term contract, with a clear pathway to a permanent position for the right candidate. Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Manage and process up to approximately 100 invoices per week across all group entities
- Reconcile supplier accounts and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
- Oversee accounts receivable and ensure accurate, timely collections
Cashflow Management & Procurement
- Develop and maintain weekly and monthly cashflow forecasts across all entities
- Negotiate and optimise payment terms with suppliers to maximise the group's cash position
- Build structured payment plans and procurement schedules to support operational efficiency
- Liaise with management on cost control and procurement strategy
Payroll
- Collect and verify timesheets for employees across all group businesses
- Process end-to-end payroll in compliance with relevant Awards and Fair Work obligations
- Manage superannuation, leave entitlements, and payroll tax accurately and on time
Financial Management & Reporting
- Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports across all group entities
- Manage BAS/GST compliance and liaise with external tax advisors
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger across all entities
- Drive continuous improvement in accounting processes and internal controls
Department Leadership
- Lead and manage the Accounting Department, setting standards and mentoring team members
- Communicate proactively and professionally with management, suppliers, and stakeholders
- Provide financial analysis and ad hoc reporting to support business decision-making
What We're Looking For
Candidates must hold Australian permanent residency or citizenship at the time of application.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferred); Bachelor's degree minimum (essential)
- CPA or CA qualification is highly desirable
Experience
- At least 5 years' total accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a Senior Accountant role
- Demonstrated experience managing high-volume accounts payable environments
- Strong track record in payroll processing, ideally across multiple business entities or awards
- Proven capability in cashflow forecasting, payment planning, and supplier management
- Experience in hospitality, retail, or multi-site / multi-entity business environments is a strong advantage
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in accounting software such as MYOB, Xero, or similar (essential)
- Strong skills across the Microsoft 365 suite
- Familiarity with AI-powered accounting tools, automation features, or data analytics applications to streamline workflows and reduce manual processing will be highly desirable
