Position Overview
We are looking for a qualified and motivated Civil Engineer to plan, design and oversee the delivery of infrastructure and construction projects across a range of sectors. This role is suited to a technically strong professional who can balance engineering design, cost control and on-site coordination. The successful candidate will contribute to safe, sustainable and commercially viable projects from concept through to completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and evaluate engineering designs, specifications and construction methodologies in accordance with Australian standards and project requirements.
- Interpret architectural and engineering drawings to determine scope, technical feasibility and compliance obligations.
- Analyse structural systems to ensure performance under static and dynamic loading conditions.
- Design civil and structural components to prevent structural failure, excessive deflection or undesirable vibration.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates, bills of quantities and budget forecasts to support financial planning and project control.
- Monitor design modifications, assess cost implications and negotiate variations with contractors and stakeholders.
- Organise and coordinate site labour, subcontractors, materials, plant and equipment to maintain project schedules.
- Establish and manage construction programmes to ensure timely delivery and efficient sequencing of activities.
- Assess transport and traffic flow patterns, incorporating projected population growth and future infrastructure demands.
- Contribute to the design and optimisation of transport systems including roads, rail, urban transit and associated terminals.
- Conduct site inspections to verify quality standards, safety compliance and adherence to approved plans.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients and regulatory authorities to resolve engineering challenges and deliver practical solutions.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in civil infrastructure, structural design or construction project delivery.
- Strong knowledge of Australian standards, building codes and regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency in engineering software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, STAAD, ETABS or equivalent modelling tools.
- Experience in cost estimation, contract administration and variation management.
- Sound understanding of structural analysis, materials selection and construction methodologies.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to liaise confidently with contractors, consultants and stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail and quality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or progress towards chartership.
- Membership with Engineers Australia or a recognised professional body.
- Experience in large-scale infrastructure or transport projects.
- Project management certification or formal training in contract administration.
- Familiarity with sustainable design principles and environmental impact considerations.
