ABOUT THE TEAM
The Secure Communications team within the Government Digital & Network Services Branch plays a critical role in safeguarding government communications infrastructure. The Server and Systems team is responsible for supporting the security and sustainability of the IT systems integral to the Ministerial Communication Network (MCN) and Government Communications Network (GCN). The Team manages day-to-day activities including the building and maintaining of Servers and Desktops for the Secure Communications Branch.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking a keen ICT Systems Administrator at the APS 5 level, or a high performing APS 4, to join our Secure Communications Technical Section, Server and Systems team commencing in September 2026. This role is ideal for someone with a background in operating systems, scripting, cybersecurity protocols and ITIL practices.
To be successful in this role you will have previous experience in IT system administration or similar roles.
As the ICT System Administrator, you will undertake:

Server patching and updates to maintain system integrity and security

Routine maintenance of hardware and software systems

Monitoring system performance and troubleshooting issues
-
maintain documentation for configurations, procedures and incident reports
In addition, you will assist the team by contributing to the development of, and enforcement of, IT governance policies and procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE
Our ideal candidate is an enthusiastic individual who has the ability to meet the core duties of the role to support the security and sustainability of MCN and GCN. You will have experience in:

- Responding to user support requests via phone, email, or ticketing system.
- Diagnosing and resolve technical issues.
- Scheduling and performing system maintenance and patching activities.
- Installing and configuring hardware and software.
- Developing and update system documentation.
- Draft and update ICT governance policies.
- Conduct compliance audits and assessments.
- Identify and mitigate risks related to IT governance.
- A Negative Vetting 1 security clearance.
