Why Join Our Singleton Office
Our Singleton office sits in the heart of town, with on-site parking and the John Street cafés, Burdekin Park and the Singleton Centre precinct all within a short walk. Singleton station is on the Hunter line, and the office is an easy drive for candidates in Maitland, Branxton, Greta, Cessnock, Muswellbrook and Scone.
The office is growing, and the client base reflects the Upper Hunter economy: family businesses, mining and civil services, agriculture, construction, hospitality and professional practices. You will work closely with the Partner on the files that matter most to those clients, rather than sitting at the end of a processing line.
What sets us apart is the combination of local roots and national reach. You keep the close client relationships and short commute of a regional practice, while drawing on the technical resources, systems and training programme of a Top 20 firm. There is no need to move to Newcastle or Sydney to progress your career.
Why Join us?
- Clear pathway from Senior Accountant to Assistant Manager, Manager and partnership
- A diverse range of privately owned clients to grow your technical skills
- CA and postgraduate study support
- Monthly tax and SMSF training
- Modern, bright workplaces with state-of-the-art technology
- Interstate retreats and company events
- Employee Assistance Program
- Paid Community Service Leave
The Opportunity
Our Singleton office is growing, and we are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to work alongside the Partner on the preparation of financial statements and the review of work prepared by the wider team. This is a senior appointment with real responsibility from the outset.
You will own a portfolio of Private Business Owner clients, become their trusted first point of contact, and contribute to tax planning and advisory conversations rather than compliance alone.
Position Responsibilities
- Prepare financial statements and income tax returns for companies, trusts, partnerships, self-managed superannuation funds and individuals
- Review files prepared by junior and intermediate team members and provide clear, constructive feedback
- Support the Partner with tax planning, structuring and year-end advisory work
- Prepare and review BAS, IAS, FBT, CGT, PAYG, Division 7A and payroll tax reconciliations
- Manage your own client portfolio and act as the day-to-day contact for those clients
- Liaise with the Australian Taxation Office on client matters
- Mentor and coach less experienced team members as the office grows
- Identify and implement improvements to workflow, systems and use of technology
About You
- At least 5 years of experience in Australian public practice
- CA or CPA qualified, or in the final stages of completion
- Proven experience preparing financial statements and tax returns across multiple entity types
- Experience reviewing the work of others, or readiness to step into a review capacity
- Familiarity with MYOB AE, APS, HowNow, Active Ledger, Xero or QuickBooks, or a strong aptitude for learning new systems
- Confident communicator who is comfortable dealing directly with business owners
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Self-motivated, proactive and genuinely client-first in your approach
