Assistant Café Manager — Nine Yards South Melbourne
Full-Time, Permanent Role
Hours: 38hrs per week
Salary: $65,000 - $68,000 per annum
Nine Yards is a beloved neighbourhood café in South Melbourne, part of the Gatherd Hospitality Group — five venues united by great food, genuine hospitality, and a strong sense of community.
We're looking for an Assistant Café Manager to help lead our front-of-house team and keep the venue running at its best, day in and day out.
What You’ll Do
- Set the energy of the venue — when you’re on, the whole room feels it
- Lead, coach, and inspire the front-of-house team through daily service and beyond
- Remember names. Not just regulars — new guests too. You’re wired to make people feel noticed
- Assist the manager with roster approvals, staffing levels, and scheduling to keep the team strong and the budget on track
- Ordering of all Coffee and beverages weekly.
- Drive revenue through genuine upselling and an outstanding guest experience
- Turn problems into loyalty — a complaint in your hands becomes a reason to come back
- Open and close the venue and own the operational rhythm from first coffee to last cover
- Uphold food safety, WHS, and all workplace compliance standards
- Experience as a Head Barista will be highly preferred also.
What We're Looking For
Proven experience in a café management role / head barista role, a track record leading high-performing front-of-house teams, strong coffee knowledge, experience with rostering, labour cost management, and stock control, a current RSA certificate, a Food Handler certificate (or willingness to obtain one within 30 days), and full working rights in Australia.
