The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking a Multi Agency Panel Coordinator to provide a critical role in Youth Justice.
About the Business Unit
The Department of Justice and Community Safety is responsible for the statutory supervision of young people in the criminal justice system.
The Department's Youth Justice Service provides programs and resources to assist young people to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes to manage their lives effectively without further offending. Through supervision, offending related programs and linkages to appropriate support services, the youth justice service promotes opportunities for rehabilitation and contributes to the reduction of crime in the community.
About the Role
The Youth Justice program is primarily responsible for supervision and case management of young people between 12—21 years of age who have committed offences and subject to remand or pre-sentence community supervision including supervised bail orders or been sentenced to custodial and/or community based statutory orders.
The Youth Justice team provides community-based supervision and a range of case management and support services for young people who are appearing before, or have been sentenced by, the Children's Court and adult criminal courts and who have received youth justice supervised orders. The legal mandate for Youth Justice is provided by the Children Youth and Families Act (CYFA) 2005.The team promotes the personal development of young people and contributes to the reduction of crime in the community including:

Community-based supervision and support services for young people
-
Youth-specific court liaison, advice and support services to the Children's Court and adult courts
-
Reports and advice to the Youth Residential Board and Youth Parole Board
-
Age-appropriate case management, casework interventions and links to programs and supports to target factors that contribute to offending.
Some of your duties will include:
-
Initiating, fostering and maintaining strong and collaborative relationships across diverse stakeholders to maximise the Multi-Agency Panel's engage ment to address youth offending and its underlying causes

Facilitating referrals to the MAP and seek relevant background information to inform suitability of referrals for consideration
-
Providing authoritative advice regarding the status of young people being considered by the Multi-Agency Panels and any agreed actions relating to their case
-
Building and maintaining relationships with key workers from partner agencies
-
Supporting Youth Justice and Justice Service Centre operations as a member of the regional senior leadership team
-
Providing direct supervision of the regional Multicultural Practitioner and oversight of related portfolios
This position is based in West Metro and required to work across various locations within the region.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Demonstrated knowledge and experience in youth justice and youth offending

Demonstrated experience and expertise in applying quality case management practice principles and involving cross-sector stakeholders in the development and implementation of local responses

Demonstrated experience in the provision of a range of executive, confidential support functions

Extensive understanding of community and regional issues
Qualifications

An appropriate qualification or equivalent work experience in social work, public policy, youth work or social sciences is desirable.
