About the role
VACCA’s Deadly Steps Forward program is a culturally responsive bail support service tailored to support Aboriginal people aged 12-25 years old. Intensive case management at the time of bail includes building self-determined plans and goals and aims to improve justice outcomes and address the underlying challenges faced by each young person that led to involvement with the justice system. Case Managers will provide trauma-informed, holistic therapeutic case management for Aboriginal young people at the time of bail and until court hearings
About You
- Demonstrated commitment and understanding for the values that underpin VACCA’ vision and purpose.
- Awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal societies and cultures and an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal people in contemporary Australia and the diversity of circumstances of Aboriginal people.
- Understanding complex challenges contributing to young people's offending and ability to provide support which may mitigate these underlying factors.
- Experience in case management with young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people or vulnerable groups.
- High level of empathy and problem-solving ability.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear, culturally appropriate and respectful way with a range of stakeholders including staff, Government Departments, Victoria Police, agency partners, young people and their families.
Desirable
- Relevant degree or certifications in Case Management and/or Therapeutic Practices (e.g. Trauma-informed Care, Mental Health and AOD, Domestic Violence, Social Work, Community Development or other relevant areas).
- Work experience in Youth Justice, Case Management, AOD, mental health or similar role.
Requirements
- Valid Police Check, a Victorian Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence. Current COVID-19 vaccination (Strongly Recommended)
