Primary objective
Support the Chief District Ranger and District Manager to manage a team to develop and deliver land management, nature
conservation and visitor activities and facilities management to support the delivery of targeted, high quality park management
outcomes, and provide support for Aboriginal and other stakeholder partnerships.
Context Statement
An order of merit will be established from this selection process and may be used to fill future T4R Senior District Ranger vacancies
over the next 12 months, including at other locations within the NT.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Contribute to the preparation of project plans and the delivery of programs and services, including overseeing financial and
human resourcing and quality control.
2. Establish and maintain effective working partnerships with a range of stakeholders including Aboriginal landowners, and liaise
with government and non-government agencies regarding the delivery of districts programs and for emergency response.
3. Provide effective leadership and oversee the training and development of staff.
4. Respond to incidents and provide first aid in accordance with emergency response procedures.
5. Drive corporate vehicles including four wheel drives and on occasion, travel long distances, in remote locations and off road.
6. Exercise financial and human resourcing delegations, delegated powers under the Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act
1976 and operate within a strong safety culture by implementing Workplace Health and Safety policies and procedures.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Significant relevant experience in a field of technical work closely related to the key duties, or a relevant qualification awarded
by an Australian institution, or equivalent.
2. Sound knowledge of conservation and natural resource management principles, incorporating protected area, visitor and joint
management / co-management, with proven ability to develop and implement associated programs and projects.
3. Demonstrated experience in financial and human resource management and the use of relevant programs and systems.
4. Demonstrated ability to lead a team of field-based staff to work outdoors in remote and challenging conditions, incorporating
equal employment and Work Health and Safety principles.
5. Well-developed verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to interact positively and effectively with
staff, visitors and stakeholders to promote effective and collaborative partnerships, and to act with confidentiality and
discretion.
6. Well-developed cross-cultural skills and experience working with Aboriginal people and other joint management / co-
management partners for work-related outcomes, or in a similar context.
7. Well-developed written communication skills, incorporating a variety of styles and media, including the ability to develop project
plans, briefs, reports and other high-level documents, with demonstrated proficiency in a range of computer programs.
8. Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and demonstrated experience to interpret and apply relevant legislation, including
undertaking compliance and enforcement duties and carrying out statutory processes.
9. Current NT drivers licence and First Aid Certificate or ability to obtain in a short timeframe.
Desirable
1. Experience working in remote / regional / Aboriginal communities and / or with pastoral and tourism industry members.
Further information
Rangers may be required to transfer to other parks and/or regions, work on weekends and public holidays, be able to drive manual
vehicles, work in physically demanding conditions and assist in incident management activities, including providing first aid.
