About the role
Join our Family Support and Counselling Team and make a meaningful difference in the lives of children, young people and families across Melbourne. As a Social Worker / Family Services Practitioner, you'll work alongside families experiencing vulnerability, providing early intervention, assessment, case management and therapeutic support to strengthen family relationships and improve outcomes for children and young people.
This role plays a key part in delivering impactful, early intervention services, supporting the safety, stability, and wellbeing of children while contributing to the City of Melbourne’s strategic vision of a liveable, healthy, and vibrant community.
Working closely with families from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, you’ll deliver case management, counselling, and group programs, while collaborating with community partners and agencies to ensure families are linked to the right supports at the right time.

A little more about the role
- Provide assessment, case management, counselling and family support services for families with children aged 0 to 17 years experiencing vulnerability.
- Deliver assessment and case management for families experiencing vulnerability, guided by the Best Interests Framework and Integrated Family Services model
- Develop Child and Family Action Plans to address risks, build on strengths, and improve outcomes for children and young people
- Facilitate parent support and therapeutic group programs, working with community partners to respond to identified needs
- Engage with a wide range of stakeholders, community services and external agencies to provide holistic, wraparound supports for families

About you
You are a compassionate and skilled practitioner who is passionate about supporting children, young people and families. You have experience working with diverse communities and can confidently build trusting relationships, undertake assessments and deliver family-centred interventions. You enjoy working collaboratively and bring a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach to your practice.
What your experience might look like - Key Selection Criteria
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work (recognised by AASW) or related discipline such as Psychology, Behavioural Science, Family Therapy or Community Social Services.
- Demonstrated experience in assessment, case management and family intervention, with knowledge of child development, family violence, mental health and trauma-informed practice.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with people from diverse cultural, linguistic and socioeconomic backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people with disability, neurodiverse individuals and LGBTIQIA+ communities.
