The role
We are seeking a proactive and commercially minded Equipment Hire Manager to lead the day to day hire operations of the business. This is a hands on role for someone who can oversee equipment hire activity from enquiry through to delivery, return and review, while also managing staff, stock flow, supplier coordination and customer service. You will play a key role in keeping the hire side of the business running smoothly, efficiently and profitably in a fast paced environment.
What you will do
- Oversee the day to day operations of the equipment hire function across the business
- Manage and support the work of supervisors, warehouse staff and wider team members
- Help recruit, train and develop staff where required
- Respond to client enquiries and provide practical hire solutions across a wide range of event and project requirements
- Analyse demand, booking activity and market conditions to help guide stock, pricing and sales decisions
- Manage purchasing decisions and supplier relationships for hire equipment and related services
- Support advertising, sales and promotional activity for the hire side of the business
- Build strong relationships with repeat clients, new enquiries, tender opportunities and referral partners
- Work closely with internal teams to ensure accurate quoting, scheduling, availability and fulfilment
- Monitor equipment utilisation, stock presentation and service standards across the hire fleet
- Help improve systems, processes and reporting to support business performance and growth
- Maintain a strong focus on customer service, commercial outcomes and operational efficiency
What you will bring
- Experience in equipment hire, event hire, operations management or a similar commercial role
- Strong leadership skills and confidence managing staff in a fast paced environment
- Commercial awareness and the ability to make sound decisions around stock, sales, purchasing and service delivery
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and keep operations running smoothly
- Strong communication and relationship management skills
- Experience working with repeat clients, new business opportunities and supplier networks
- Confidence using business systems, reporting tools and Microsoft Office
- A practical, solutions focused approach and strong attention to detail
- Experience in events, hire, logistics or related industries would be highly regarded
