Our Brisbane Property team is recruiting for an Associate to join our national real estate practice, working with Edwina Reynolds and Mark Askin.
About Us
Mills Oakley is a leading national law firm with a proud history spanning over 160 years. In that time, we’ve grown into a Top 6 Australian law firm by size while remaining true to our shared vision of exceptional client service with a friendly and collaborative ethos. Mutual trust and respect are at the heart of everything we do.
The Role
Our Brisbane Property team is offering an opportunity for an Associate to join our national real estate practice, working closely with industry-recognised Partners Edwina Reynolds and Mark Askin. Our team is lean by design, with less-hierarchy and closer Partner collaboration. Clients know our names, not just our logo. We invest in building career-long relationships by bringing clarity, confidence and capable ownership to every property transaction.
This role suits lawyers who want earlier matter ownership, direct client contact and the confidence that comes from doing the deal, supported by Partners who stay close to the transactional details.
You will work across institutional and private client matters, including:
- major commercial and industrial leasing portfolios
- acquisitions, divestments and capital repositioning of Australian real estate assets
- developments and structured real estate projects
You will:
- draft, negotiate and manage a mix of commercial and industrial leasing transactions
- support multi-phased capital transactions, including acquisitions, divestments and asset repositioning
- run due diligence workstreams and manage key completion deliverables with confidence
- collaborate on development and asset-level issues, including property management, structured projects and corporate real estate matters
Who We Are Looking For
As a core team member, you will work with increasing independence, bring sound commercial judgment, and contribute to a high-trust, high-performance culture through:
- 3–5 years’ PQE drafting high-quality property and leasing documents
- an outcome-focused mindset, with an understanding of what adds value to a matter for the client
- strong emotional intelligence and resilience, with a disciplined commercial approach to negotiations
- identifying commercial risk early and explaining it clearly, with practical mitigation solutions
- a desire to step into earlier matter ownership and build credibility with clients
What We Offer
You will join a team that backs sustainable high performance, because quality advice (and great careers) are built on high energy and consistency, not late nights. We manage competing priorities early, share our load and our wins, while staying calm under pressure and delivering on the outcome. Our team enjoys:
- Work: institutional-grade matters across leasing, acquisitions/divestments and developments.
- Growth: direct Partner access and hands-on mentoring.
- Progression: clear, performance-based expectations measured by capability and client impact.
- Balance: we plan and resource matters early, communicate priorities clearly, and use quick conversations to unblock issues.
- Remuneration: competitive salary package aligned to experience and performance, with a straightforward conversation about expectations and progression. Team members also enjoy generous referral bonuses.
- Lifestyle: we back sustainable performance through flexible working arrangements, dress for your day, discounted health insurance and fitness memberships, and Employee Assistance Program access.
All applications must include a CV and Cover Letter addressed to the Talent Acquisition team and submitted online via our Careers page.
