About the role
We are looking for a passionate and talented Hygiene Technician to join our HSE team at Rio Tinto Yarwun Refinery based in Gladstone, working Monday to Friday or you have the option to do a 9-day fortnight.

Working in a challenging and exciting environment, you will be assisting the Site Occupational Hygiene team performing their day-to-day activities:
Conducting Occupational Hygiene Surveys to identify and confirm exposure risks and prepare associated reports
Routine and targeted monitoring
Educating, communicating and engaging with Rio Tinto HSE groups, site leaders and operational personnel
Ensuring occupational hygiene documentation is current and accurate
Supporting the administration of programs such as ChemAlert or Cority
Managing site equipment and monitors
What you will bring
To be successful in this role you will have:
Genuine interest in understanding and improving workers’ health
Scientific education background
An understanding of legislative requirements relating to health surveillance and occupational hygiene
Sound understanding of MS Office
Completed the Basic Principle of Occupational Hygiene - desirable
Membership of the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists (AIOH) - desirable

Yarwun Refinery
Located in Central Queensland, approximately 10km north-west of Gladstone, Yarwun alumina refinery commenced operations in 2004. Processing bauxite from our mines in Weipa and Gove, Yarwun produces more than three million tonnes of smelter grade alumina annually. With a focus on safely improving our process every day, the team at Yarwun challenge themselves to use existing and emerging technology to support our 24-hour operation.
Yarwun is a proud member of the Gladstone community, and along with Boyne Smelters Limited and Queensland Alumina Limited, support community investments that improve the liveability of the Gladstone region through the Here for Gladstone community fund.
