As our business continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced Occupational Health and Safety Advisor to support our team and ensure that strong workplace health and safety practices are maintained across our operations.
About the Role
The Occupational Health and Safety Advisor will be responsible for providing practical WHS advice, monitoring workplace safety, identifying hazards and supporting the business to maintain compliance with relevant occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, standards and Codes of Practice.
The role will involve working with management, support workers and other staff to identify and manage risks associated with providing home care and support services.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular workplace and worksite inspections to identify hazards and ensure compliance with WHS requirements, industry standards and relevant Codes of Practice.
- Inspect work environments, equipment, machinery, protective equipment and other safety-related systems to ensure they are safe and fit for purpose.
- Monitor workplace practices and provide guidance to workers on safe work procedures, the correct use of PPE and the safe handling and storage of hazardous substances.
- Identify, assess and document workplace hazards and recommend appropriate control measures.
- Investigate workplace incidents, accidents, near misses and complaints relating to unsafe working conditions, including collecting evidence and documenting findings.
- Inspect and assess operational activities, equipment and work environments to identify occupational health and safety risks.
- Provide practical advice to management and workers regarding WHS obligations, risk management and best-practice safety procedures.
- Assist with the development, implementation and review of WHS policies, procedures, risk assessments and safe work practices.
- Provide WHS education, information and guidance to support workers and other employees.
- Monitor compliance with established safety procedures and recommend corrective actions where required.
- Prepare WHS reports and maintain accurate records of inspections, incidents, hazards, investigations and corrective actions.
- Assist management in responding to WHS issues and implementing measures to prevent workplace injuries and incidents.
- Keep up to date with changes to occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, standards and industry practices.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Relevant qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety, Work Health and Safety, Workplace Health and Safety or a related discipline.
- Relevant experience in an occupational health and safety advisory role.
- Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, regulations, standards and Codes of Practice.
- Experience conducting workplace inspections, risk assessments and incident investigations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to provide practical WHS advice to management and workers.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent record-keeping skills.
- The ability to work independently and take initiative.
- A professional and practical approach to identifying and managing workplace risks.
- Experience in the health care, community services, disability support or home care sector will be highly regarded.
