About the Opportunity
South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD) invites applications from motivated Advanced Trainees in Paediatrics for a 12-month rotational position, comprising six months in General Paediatrics with a perinatal component at Campbelltown Hospital and six months in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Liverpool Hospital. Accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP), this position is ideal for Advanced Trainees pursuing a career in General Paediatrics or Neonatal and Perinatal Medicine. This position offers a great opportunity to develop advanced clinical skills across neonatology and general paediatrics within two busy teaching hospitals that provide care to one of the largest, fastest-growing, and most culturally diverse communities in New South Wales.
Where You'll Be Working
Campbelltown Hospital is a contemporary teaching hospital with an expanding paediatric service delivering comprehensive inpatient, emergency, ambulatory and outpatient care to infants, children and adolescents. The department provides a supportive and collaborative learning environment with a diverse case mix, allowing trainees to gain valuable experience across acute general paediatrics, neonatal medicine through the Level 4 Special Care Nursery and multidisciplinary models of care.
Liverpool Hospital is a major tertiary referral and teaching hospital with a Level 5 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit providing specialist care for premature and critically unwell newborns from across South Western Sydney and surrounding regions, offering trainees extensive exposure to complex neonatal care within a multidisciplinary team.
As part of SWSLHD, both hospitals are committed to excellence in patient care, education, research and innovation, providing trainees with access to structured teaching and a strong culture of learning and professional development.
What You'll Be Doing
As an Advanced Trainee, you will work as an integral member of multidisciplinary teams across both rotations, providing high-quality, evidence-based care to neonates, infants, children and their families. At Campbelltown Hospital, you will broaden your experience in general paediatrics through the management of acute and chronic paediatric conditions across inpatient, emergency and ambulatory settings, while working closely with consultant paediatricians and multidisciplinary teams. During your rotation at Liverpool Hospital NICU, you will develop advanced neonatal skills in the assessment and management of premature and critically unwell newborns, including attendance at high-risk deliveries, neonatal resuscitation, intensive care management and family-centred care under the supervision of experienced neonatologists. Throughout the rotation, you will participate in structured education, clinical governance, quality improvement and teaching activities, contributing to a culture of continuous learning while building the knowledge, skills and confidence required for a successful career in neonatology or general paediatrics.
