The role
As the Senior Geoscientist, you will undertake complex geoscience studies and prepare reports, maps and digital datasets that support the assessment and development of energy systems and geological storage projects in Western Australia. Using your specialist expertise in basin studies, seismic geophysics and petroleum systems, you will provide high-level technical input and expertise to projects across hydrocarbons, hydrogen, geothermal and geological storage, contributing to data quality, geoscience publications and informed resource development.
Your technical expertise, analytical capability and experience in petroleum and energy geoscience will be key to your success in this role. You will hold a Bachelor of Science in geoscience, with postgraduate qualifications and/or industry experience in petroleum exploration viewed favourably, and have demonstrated ability to deliver publication-standard reports, maps and digital products under limited direction.
You will bring to the team sound judgement, strong problem-solving skills and the ability to mentor others, improve data quality processes and build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver complex geoscience projects and publications.

While this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other similar vacancies (permanent, fixed-term, full-time or part-time) within the department for the next 12 months, from the date that the recruitment breach period has been finalised.
Eligibility
To be eligible for a permanent appointment, applicants must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia at the time of application. Applicants with a valid visa to work and live in Australia for a specific duration may be assessed and considered suitable for similar fixed term vacancies that arise.
Should a qualification be required for this position, applicants must provide their certification and/or academic transcripts to verify relevance to the job requirements. Qualifications obtained outside of Australia must be provided with an assessment from the Overseas Qualifications Unit to ensure they meet Australian Standards (this is a free service).
To work for DMPE, you must consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a clearance before you start. If deemed suitable, DMPE will coordinate and pay for your NCCHC as part of your pre-employment checks.

- Bachelor of Science Degree in geoscience with an emphasis in basin studies, seismic geophysics and petroleum systems.
