Details: Alcohol, Tobacco, Other Drug, Sexually Transmissible Infections and Blood Borne Viruses (ATODS) Policy are seeking a high-performing and experienced policy officer with strong written communication skills and well-developed stakeholder engagement and collaboration capabilities. Experience/ interest in drug checking policy is also highly desirable.
The ATODS Policy team works to strengthen the ACT's response to alcohol, tobacco and other drug use and sexual health challenges by collaborating across government, health services, and communities to develop policy and programs supporting accessible services and reducing stigma in the ACT.
The Assistant Director is responsible for preparing policy advice and delivering project outcomes in support of HCSD’s policy agenda and public health priorities. This is achieved through the development of documents, reports, submissions, briefs, and correspondence for the Senior Executive and Government, and through engagement with community, government and clinical partners. Eligibility/Other Requirements:
- Knowledge of, or experience in alcohol and other drug policies would be highly regarded.

Prior to commencement, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
Notes: This is a temporary position available from 01 September 2026 until 27 January 2027 with the possibility of extension up to 12 months and/or permanency. A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.
This position will be performed under the ACT Government’s hybrid working arrangements, including home-based work and two days a week in person at an office space designed for activity-based working (ABW).
